Founder / Naval Architect

Buckley Yacht Design’s founder Warwick Buckley has collected over 45 years’ experience in the marine industry. He had a successful career as a professional sailor, sailing in the 1981-82 Whitbread Round the World Race on Flyer, the winning yacht. He has travelled around the world racing, building and designing yachts of all kinds, from power and sail boats to tall ships. He earned a Bachelors of Engineering Degree at the internationally renowned Southampton Institute Yacht & Powercraft Design (BEng) program to become a Naval Architect.

Naval Architect

Jami grew up in his family’s boat yards, where his interest in yachts and the ocean began. He spent a few years travelling and sailing in various parts of the world, sketching yachts on anything he could get his hands on. Jami then decided to follow in his father’s footsteps, attending Southampton Solent and holds a Yacht & Powercraft Design Degree (BEng), completing his training with Dykstra Naval Architects in Holland. His steadfast passion for yacht design has lead him to work on a variety of vessels, both power and sail, cruising and performance. Jami has worked on and supports various high profile design teams including Team Hugo Boss.

Business Development

Tommi also grew up in boat yards run by the family. He has worked in the marine industry from a young age working in various aspects. He has spent over a decade gaining extensive experience within the commercial and private sector of the marine industry in sales and business development. Tommi is responsible for creating and maintaining client relations, procurement, and marketing for the current lines of in-house vessels.

Tommi spent his late teen years exploring the West Coast of America by boat and enjoys spending his spare time sailing… and racing aboard Kia Kaha.

BYD can work to a variety of Classification Society Rules and Regulations to ensure a vessel has adequate structural scantlings, and meets criteria for its intended purpose and area of operation. Through the use of dedicated software we can engineer and model the vessels structure, which can then be used for FEA and creating cut files for CNC. We can design vessels constructed of Wood, Composite, Steel and Aluminium.

Support can be offered in the form of Project Management and/or Consulting for before, during and after the build of a vessel. We house the experience and capabilities to aid the Client and/or Shipyard through the construction and commissioning process.
